“Making the invisible visible” STREET ART PROJECT FOR TROY DAVIS IN LONDON
Creative duo Kirsten Rutherford and Lisa Jelliffe from London’s Brothers and Sisters agency drew our attention to their current poster installation “Making the invisible visible” that hit the streets of London this past weekend. It is a collaboration with the Berlin-based, three-person photographic street art collective Mentalgassi in support of Amnesty International.
The London poster campaign is specifically in support of Troy Davis, a man described as having “been on death row for 19 years in the USA, despite serious doubts about his conviction.” The posters, depicting a close-up Davis’s face, are mounted on fence railings that disguise the posters so that the face behind the bars is revealed only when viewed from an angle.

FAKE (VIDEO: STREET ART)
Check out this video by Amsterdam based stencil artist, FAKE. In a recent interview with Concrete Canvas the artist shared his view on the street art scene in Amsterdam which is mostly composed of graffiti artists.
“I think street art is often misunderstood and confused as vandalism. Real street art makes people think and adds something to the urban life.” - FAKE

THE RDAC WINS THE 2010 UNION SQUARE ARTS AWARD: Rebel Diaz, Circa '95, Intikana, Yc The Cynic, Lucho Gomez, Dj Charlie Hustle & more.
The Union Square Awards are named for the park on 14th Street, a historic gathering place, where since the nineteenth century New Yorkers have organized and spoken out about major social issues. Known as a forum for the poor and disenfranchised, Union Square is identified with strong commitments and highlights the essential qualities embodied in the Award. The Union Square Arts Award recognizes the central leadership role played by arts and culture in providing educational opportunities for young people, building collaboration and promoting social change. The Award supports organizations working with youth and families in low-income communities across New York City in all artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theater, Visual and Media Arts. http://www.unionsquareawards.org/
Rebel Diaz Arts Collective (RDAC-BX) is a South Bronx-based performance and multimedia space that “aims to utilize culture as a means for education and self-empowerment in the community. By promoting a sense of ownership, agency, and responsibility through the arts, RDAC-BX addresses issues of gender, racial, and economic inequality.” Working with neighborhood volunteers, RDAC-BX transformed a formerly abandoned space into a vibrant community center. Today the 4,000 sq. ft. loft houses a large performance/ meeting space, art gallery, multimedia recording and editing studio, computer lab and multi-use outdoor art garden. The center also serves as a space for family gatherings and celebrations, neighborhood association meetings, and a film studio and rehearsal space for performers. RDAC-BX’s programs include monthly open mics that spotlight local talent, special showcases that highlight youth-created music, art, video, and film festivals. All events provide space for dialogue and discussion about the issues affecting the community.

WORLD AIDS DAY
World AIDS Day is recognized each year on December 1 to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education regarding a leading killer of black men and women. Many of those who are infected with the disease are unaware of their HIV status and may unknowingly transmit the virus to others. This is why it's critical for us all to get educated, get tested, get treated and get involved!
Stopping AIDS is like learning your ABCs: Abstain from sex, Be faithful to a single partner and use a Condom each and every time you have sex.
