'Frienemies" is the place to battle that person that you chill with on a regular basis and show him/her that they're not as good as they brag about all the time. Winner receives an all expense paid trip to rep the U.S. at the UK B-Boy Championships.

'Stand Alone Complex' Release Party

Since Circa '95 is ALWAYS in the building, we certainly did our due diligence and rolled out to the Red Bull Loft Space to check out a listening event for Jet Audio's latest effort, Stand Alone Complex. Rubbing elbows with some of New York's other urban socialites while drinking free booze also counts among our favorite things to do. OutaSight and The Kid Daytona, who are both featured on the project, were on hand to rock out while everyone was speeding off energy drinks. A ton of folks showed up to support the project and were greeted by some great tunes, good-looking people and a dope vibe. Somewhere in between the vodka, Heineken and Red Bull, we managed to snap a couple of pictures, literally, which give you an idea of both the energy and intoxication levels (note to self: no more drinking on the job...smh)...enjoy. Be sure to check out Jet Audio's 'Stand Alone Complex' (click the album cover for the free download)...

Reggaeton a hybrid of reggae and rap, reggaeton is a music with Spanish-language lyrics and Caribbean aesthetics that has taken Latin America, the United States, and the world by storm. Superstars-including Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, and Ivy Queen-garner international attention, while aspiring performers use digital technologies to create and circulate their own tracks. Reggaeton brings together critical assessments of this wildly popular genre. Journalists, scholars, and artists delve into reggaeton's local roots and its transnational dissemination; they parse the genre's aesthetics, particularly in relation to those of hip-hop; and they explore the debates about race, nation, gender, and sexuality generated by the music.

Estilo Hip Hop by Loira Limbal and Virgilio Bravo chronicles the lives of three hip hop enthusiasts from Brazil, Chile and Cuba who firmly believe that hip hop can change the world. These three inspirational leaders mobilize young people to become politically active. However as the stakes assume greater risks, the leaders are faced with challenges and have to make a life-altering decisions that ultimately impact the course of their lives and of the hip hop movement. Co-production of ITVS.

Check Out...The Stoop 2009!!

Hosted by PattyDukes and Rephstar!!
F.O.K.U.S. Presents: The Stoop 2009 on August 8, 2009
The Stoop 2009: A Free Celebration to Unite Community Through ArtBrooklyn, NY – A large part of what makes New York City so dynamic is that, with over 8 million people, New York’s true identity is really that of the many cultures these residents represent. Every summer, NYC provides some of the best programming for all to enjoy that cuts across many of these cultures. With this in mind, F.O.K.U.S. presents The Stoop 2009 hosted by PattyDukes and Rephstar of Circa ’95 on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 1:00PM in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn, NY, – a FREE arts celebration featuring bands, vocalists and artists from a range of genres. This annual community gathering brings together talented artists, community organizations, and the people of NYC in a space that serves as a physical crossroads between individuals and their unique artistic expressions.
With a headline performance from the highly energetic, live remix band Keys N Krates, and supporting sets from emerging talents such as Belikos, Caleb Curtis, Gist aka The Essence, The Kid Daytona, and The Approaching Storm (a youth marching band) this year’s event promises to be a fantastic and unique addition to NY’s roster of summer events.
Organizations like The Orange Giraffe, New York Chess & Game Shop, Bowery Arts and Science and Yelp! will host information tables at the event, and Photo by TONE will be on taking pictures of the event and attendees.
The Stoop 2009 will also feature giveaways (including food and drink) from our sponsors IZZE, The Fader, NY Kings/Frank151, Robert’s American Gourmet , Yelp!, Staple Design and Fresh Industries.
The Stoop is a vital opportunity to see various genres of music, art and community in one setting. Many great people and opportunities are present throughout our communities, but without awareness we do not learn about them and leverage such relations for the betterment of our communities and our youth.
